Welcome! This is a cottage business created by my mother-in-law (Betsy), my sister-in-law (Kara) and myself (Sandy). I learned how to knit from Betsy and Kara learned how to knit and crochet from her mother. The three of us have been knitting together almost as long as we've been married to Betsy's two sons! Let's just say it's been awhile.
In 2006, Betsy a masterful knitter, began experimenting with felting some of her projects. She played with a few different bag patterns and was hooked (no pun intended!) pretty quickly. She soon had me working on a few bags.
We each made a bunch of bags through that winter with no real direction in mind...we were simply having a blast! Eventually, we had amassed quite a collection of bags and needed to do something with them. We began showing them to our friends and family members. They shared them with a few friends, and so on and so on. Soon, we had requests coming in for special orders. This past fall our bags traveled to several art fairs and holiday events for the first time. The bags kept selling. We kept right on knitting. So then we added a blog to reach more folks. And now they are here on my website, as a way to promote them and sell them throughout the year, not just in the Fall and during the holidays.
The Process:
We take pride in the bags we make. Using a variety of wools, we knit each bag first, combining colors in pleasing arrangements. Once the knitting is finished, the bag is put through the wash cycle on hot water with a dab of soap. Sometimes a bag goes in alone, other times we get some linens cleaned at the same time.
Lastly, the bag comes out of the wash and is reshaped and set to dry. Each time we pull a bag out of the washer, it's a surprise! No matter if the same pattern is done over and over, a slightly different shape or size comes out of the wash. The different yarns we use all react differently with the hot water and agitation of the washing machine. That part is always quite exciting! |
